This tends to be a controversial issue. Do I keep the pull up because it does not appear that the bedwetting is getting better? It helps with doing laundry every day and keeps the bed from smelling. But is the pull up preventing my kid from feeling the wetness? Is it actually leading to the bedwetting?
If your child and family are ready to tackle bedwetting, I would recommend saying “bon voyage” to pull ups and put them in the trash. I consider them to be a crutch. Wearing pull ups prevents the full responsibility that the child should take in the process of cleaning up after themselves. The pull up is also not going to allow a bedwetting alarm to work properly.
So, what to do about the pee when they have an accident? I recommend “lasagning the sheets”. In other words, layer the bed with an absorbable pad then sheet multiple times. This makes it easier to change out the sheets at night when there is an accident. Don’t forget to leave a change of PJs by the bed. And leave a hallway light on so it makes the entire process easier at night.
